On July 4, the Fujian-Guangdong interconnection project achieved the first full-power transmission of 2 million kilowatts of electricity from Guangdong to Fujian. Key equipment in the project, such as switchgear, disconnectors, lightning arresters and vacuum circuit breakers, ensured the safety and stability of power transmission, effectively improving the power supply capacity of East China during the peak summer season.
In order to better play the role of the Fujian-Guangdong interconnection project, Beijing Power Exchange Center and Guangzhou Power Exchange Center promoted the establishment of a medium- and long-term power mutual aid trading mechanism between the State Grid and the Southern Power Grid in 2024. On the basis of the 600,000-kilowatt power transaction from Guangdong to Fujian that has been completed in the annual market, on June 26, it was reached that Guangdong Power Grid would increase the power transaction of 1.4 million kilowatts to Fujian Power Grid during the evening peak period in early July through the drop-out fuse protection mechanism, and finally achieved the goal of Guangdong to Fujian full-power transmission of 2 million kilowatts of electricity.
As a key power project in the national "14th Five-Year Plan" development plan, the Fujian-Guangdong interconnection project was completed and put into operation on September 30, 2022, connecting Guangdong and Fujian provinces, with a maximum transmission capacity of 2 million kilowatts. In this project, transformers, as core conversion equipment, play a vital role in the step-up and step-down of electric energy. As of the end of June this year, the Fujian-Guangdong interconnection project has transmitted more than 6.36 billion kWh of electricity, of which Fujian sent 4.266 billion kWh to Guangdong and Guangdong sent 2.094 billion kWh to Fujian, playing an indispensable and important role in ensuring the power supply of the two places.
According to reports, during the peak summer period, the Beijing Power Exchange Center and the Guangzhou Power Exchange Center will closely follow the supply and demand situation of the State Grid and the Southern Power Grid, maximize the performance of various equipment in the Fujian-Guangdong interconnection project, including the fast switching capability of the switch cabinet, the clear isolation function of the isolation switch, and the lightning protection of the arrester, etc., flexibly carry out power mutual aid transactions, and fully support the electricity needs of relevant provinces.
